Fort Crook Historical Society
Board Meeting - November 4, 2008
The meeting of the Fort Crook Historical
Society was called to order at 7:05 P.M. by
President Robert Ingram. All stood for the
flag salute.
Those present were board members Robert
Ingram, Betty Stoltenberg, Billie Albaugh,
Milly Lakey, Tim Glaze, John Fenn, Jeannette
Ciriello and Glorianne Weigand. Also
present were past president Chuck McCulley
and curator Dorothy Mason.
The minutes of the previous meeting were
read. There being no corrections they were
approved as read. Also read was a nice
article from the Shasta Historical
newsletter “Stagecoach” about our part in
the Rendezvous.
The Treasurers report was given and we
have $31,812.09 in the general fund and
$51,834.15 in the Round Barn Fund. We
received a check from the Pit River Pioneers
for $1,900.00 from the Rendezvous proceeds.
With the meals we served and the gift shop
and this donation we made $4,268.00 on the
Rendezvous which was a record income. Tim
made the motion to accept the treasurer’s
report and John seconded it. Motion passed.
OLD BUSINESS: Round Barn, A
meeting about the Round Barn was held on
October 25 at the Valley Rentals. It was
very well attended. The plans were
discussed with Wayne Norris and Dan McMillan
and were further discussed with Frank
Germano. Some last minute details were
decided on such as the original barn had a
window in every other bay so that needed to
be addressed. Samples of roofing material
were discussed. John Fenn will find out
prices on plywood for our grant application.
There were seven units of lumber in Bieber
for the barn that had been sawn up several
years ago and Stan Weigand and Bill
Stoltenberg hauled it to the Feed Store barn
his past week.
It was suggested that we have the advice
of a lawyer with our business of the Round
Barn construction. It was suggested that
maybe we could contact Jim Reed and Betty
will talk to him.
Jeannette, Betty and Glorianne worked on
the information that Jan Lopez needed for
the Grants. Bill Campbell and John Fenn
worked on the biographies and everything is
coming together. It was decided to send
what we have now to Jan and finish up with
some details as soon as possible. Jeannette
and John will get it sent off to her.
The Harvest Dinner was well
attended. We served meatloaf, scalloped
potatoes, salads, cookies and ice cream. We
served about 90 people and sent out 10 meals
to others. The meat for the meal was donated
by Henry and Pam Giacomini of Hat Creek
Grown Beef.
One of the Raffle items, an afghan which
was made by Jeanette Albaugh was thought to
have been made by someone else. Thanks for
your donation Jeanette and also to everyone
else who donated raffle items. The raffle
brought in $1,194.00.
The Piano Recital at the Glenburn
Church on Saturday November 1 was attended
by 50 people with eight pianists
performing. Tim and Merry Glaze put the
program together and printed the programs.
It was held the same day as the Church soup
luncheon and bazaar which benefited both
functions. It was decided to do it again
next year combining the two events on the
first Saturday in November.
There will be a work day on November 8,
this Saturday to close the museum up for the
winter. We have a Man lift donated so we
will be able to do the roof repair on the
Museum. Lunch will be provided.
Santa’s Workshop will be December 6
and we will serve lunch again like we did
last year but not have so many choices of
soup. We will plan this further on
Saturday. Aprons have been purchased with
“Fort Crook Cooking Team” embroidered on
them to use at the many functions that we
serve at.
Millville Historical Society
donated two small showcases to us and they
have been picked up. A thank you letter was
sent.
The budget for the year was presented and
discussed. Jeannette made the motion to
approve the budget and John seconded it.
Motion passed.
The Newsletter was discussed. It
was felt that we were not getting some of
the information out in a timely manner so
therefore it was decided to only do a
newsletter bi-monthly and it would be easier
to get the information out sooner. Tim made
the motion to do a Dispatch Newsletter every
other month starting January 2009.
Jeannette seconded it, motion passed. This
should be noted in the next news letters
that will finish up 2008.
The minutes are now
on our web site of
www.fortcrook.com
so that will keep people informed of what is
going on.
NEW BUSINESS: We need to do a
calendar year planning. 2009 will be the
Fort Crook Historical Society’s 75th
anniversary. We hope to incorporate the
anniversary celebration with Pioneer Day on
June 6, 2009.
A Quilt Show will be planned
again this year in April. We are planning
on the community yard sale in April. We
will host the 2nd annual
Historical Society meeting on May 9 at 11:00
A.M. We will serve them lunch and invite all
surrounding Societies.
Chuck said they had 5 at their first
blacksmith demonstration.
Their being no further business the meeting
was adjourned at 9:00 P.M. Respectively
submitted,
Glorianne Weigand, Secretary
