Board Meeting

October 7, 2008

The meeting of the Fort Crook Historical Society was called to order at 7:00 P.M. by President Robert Ingram.  All stood for the flag salute.

Those present were board members Robert Ingram, John Fenn, Charles Thomason, Tim Glaze, Billie Albaugh, Betty Stoltenberg, Jeannette Ciriello, Milly Lakey and Glorianne Weigand.  Also present were Past President Chuck McCulley, Curator Dorothy Mason and guest Ramiro Guridi.

The minutes were read and Jeannette’s name was omitted from the last meeting as being present so it was added.  John made the motion and Betty seconded it to accept the minutes as corrected. Motion passed.

The treasurer’s report was given and we have $29,024.43 in the general fund and $51,169. 45 in the Round Barn fund.  We made $1800.00 profit on our meals at the Rendezvous and $511.85 profit on the Golden Anniversary Fair dinner.  Milly made the motion to accept the Treasurers report and Charles seconded it. Motion passed.

OLD BUSINESS:  John Fenn chairman of the IT Committee introduced Ramiro Guridi who is the web master for our new web site.  Our email is fortcrook@frontiernet.net and our web site is www.fortcrook.com.  With the Go Daddy web it will cost us $175.00 for three years for the domain name and web hosting.  Ramiro explained the process and that he has several other accounts in the valley which one is the Fall River Chamber and he will put our link into their site. John will be the contact for all of the business with Ramiro other than the minutes will be sent directly to him from the secretary.

The Shelly Creek Rendezvous was a great success for the museum in the meals that we served.  We served 58 dinners of pork loin, corn and slaw Friday night and 94 Dutch oven beef, potatoes, carrots and green salad dinners Saturday night.  For breakfast we served ham, eggs and hotcakes to 53 on Saturday morning and ham, eggs, biscuits & gravy on Sunday morning to 58 at $7.00 for breakfast and $8.00 for dinner with a profit of $1800.00.  Shirley French donated his $120.00 for the water truck back.

Robert and Chuck will go to the Pit River Pioneer Dinner at Sam’s Pizza on October 14 to treat them to Pizza. Jeannette made the motion to pay for the Pizza and Charles seconded it.  Motion passed.

Round Barn update, Wayne Norris has logs in and he is waiting for Billy Cessna to get some boards sawn.  Tim is researching roofing.  We had a meeting earlier with Wilderness Construction to discuss roofing.  We are still looking into options.  Billy Albaugh has trees and he has someone to cut them down so hopes to get that done soon.

Jan Lopez President and CEO of the Cottonwood Creek Watershed Group met with the board members at a special meeting and discussed Grant writing.  She gave us a list of items that need to be included for her to proceed with the process.  Jeannette, Betty and Glorianne will meet on the 15th to get the information together.

The Harvest Dinner will be October 19th at the Veterans Hall.  We will serve meat loaf and scallop potatoes, potluck salads and cookies and ice cream.  We have the decorations and will decorate on Saturday the 18th.

The Kimball Piano that is housed at the Glenburn Church has been repaired and returned.  Lyn Read gave a generous donation of $3,000 for the repairs and since it was more than expected the Glenburn Church paid $400.00 and the museum paid $300.00.

The Piano Recital will be at the Glenburn Church on Saturday November 1 at 2:00 P.M.  Tim has contacted eight pianists that will play.

The watering trough that belonged to Minar Nicholson has been brought to the Museum.  It needs major repairs but Tim has found enough lumber in the Pony Barn to repair it.

Tim also reported that the material for the Fort Crook Flag has been purchased and Peggy Hansen will make it for us.

Tim has also made a new sign for the Museum with the open hours and dates on it. Good job Tim.

The Saturation mailing has been tabled at this time.

The museum roof repair needs to be done and Charles purchased the shingles.  Robert will check on a man lift.  We have scheduled a November 8 work day at 9:00 A.M. to close the museum up for the winter.

John made a motion that we do the lunch for the Santa’s workshop again.  Glorianne seconded it.  Motion passed. Milly will notify them.

Charles will work on the Five Year plan again.  Glorianne will help him.  We have accomplished many of our projects from the last plan in three years.  It needs to be updated for the grant applications.

Chuck will take Museum flyers to Burney Falls Heritage days this Sunday.

Blacksmith work shops will start on November 2, and will be the 1st & 3rd Sundays through March.

The Millville Museum has offered us some showcases.  Glorianne will contact them and pick them up.

The Big Valley School will have a field day October 17 at the museum.

There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 9:00 P.M.

Respectively Submitted, Glorianne Weigand, Secretary
