Fort Crook Historical Society
Board
meeting
September 2, 2008
The meeting of the Fort Crook Historical
Society was called to order at 7:00 P.M. by
President Robert Ingram. All stood for the
flag salute.
Those present were Board Members Robert
Ingram, Betty Stoltenberg, Billy Albaugh,
Charles Thomason, Tim Glaze, John Fenn,
Milly Lakey, and Glorianne Weigand. Also
present were Past President Chuck McCulley
and Curator Dorothy Mason.
The minutes of the previous meeting were
read and the wrong amount of the treasurer’s
report was reported. It should have read
General fund $29,956.38 and Round Barn
$50,012.73. Milly made a motion to accept
the minutes as corrected and Billy seconded
it. Motion passed.
The Treasurer’s report was given and we
have $25,879.48 in the General Fund and
$50,012.73 in the Round Barn Fund. Charles
made a motion to accept the report and John
seconded it. Motion passed.
Old Business: The Fair was a success for
the Fort Crook Museum. We placed first with
our booth of “Preserving the Past” and will
receive $200.00 premium and first for the
float of the “Fall River Feed Store, A
Legacy Lives On “and will receive $100.00
premium for that. Thanks to all who helped
on both and donated fruits and vegetables
for the booth.
The Golden Anniversary Dinner was a huge
success and again, Thanks to Anita Ray and
her crew. 186 people were fed at $8.00 each
which went to the Museum after expenses. We
took in $1,589.00 and the expenses were
$770.00. There were seven kids that helped
serve and they each got $25.00 from the tip
money.
Chuck reported on Shelly Creek and we will
meet at 9:00 on Friday morning to haul
tables and chairs out in Weigand’s stock
trailer and leave it to use for a kitchen
again. This worked very well last year.
Chuck will go out on Thursday and get camp
set up. Betty will do the shopping on
Wednesday. We made a schedule for workers
and Chuck needs lots of help on Saturday
evening to get the roasts and vegetables
ready for the Dutch Ovens. Everyone is to
bring cookies. We will serve Friday and
Saturday dinners 5-7 P.M. and Saturday and
Sunday 8-10 A.M. breakfasts.
Round Barn update is that Bill Cessna is
cutting on the logs and some more logs were
donated from some people at Glenburn. Betty
said we have our building permit renewed for
one more year on the Round Barn.
The Saturation mailing sounds like our
best way to get information out. Tim
reported that it would cost .16 cents each
and there are 1,882 deliveries from Fall
River and McArthur and 1000 for Burney which
would be $461.12. Robert is still working
on the information on this. Glorianne made
the motion that we do this mailing and
Jeannette seconded it. Motion passed.
John reported on the IT Committee. His
sister-in-law redid the computer to install
XP. This is what she did for a living and
she worked for several days to complete this
task. John said we need to take the
computer out of the museum for the winter to
a warmer environment. He will get the web
site set up before next meeting. John and
Betty are on the Frontier account now.
Chuck said we need to sell tickets here
for the Powder Horn that is raffled off at
the Rendezvous. Kent Brown of Central
Point, OR hand crafts it and the proceeds go
to the Museum.
The Museum roof needs repair from where
the shingles have blown off. If we get a
man lift from Packway Charles said he could
do the work. He will buy a bundle of
shingles to match when he goes to Redding.
We also need to tack the nails down on the
cabin as it is leaking.
New Business: Tim will order material to
have a Fort Crook Flag made to hang out
front. Peggy Hansen will make the flag for
us.
Harvest dinner will be October 19 at 1:00
P.M. at the Veterans Hall. Betty, Milly,
Sharon and Glorianne will meet next Tuesday
at 1:00 to make plans and do the mailing of
the tickets.
The Kimball piano at the Glenburn Church
needed major repairs and tuning. Lyn Read
has offered to pay for the repairs. She has
donated $3,000 to the Museum for the repairs
and the Museum will pay the bill. After it
was taken to Redding it was found that more
repairs were needed and the Glenburn Church
has offered to take care of the extra bill.
Tim has a water trough in McArthur that he
wants moved to the museum so it will be
picked up at 8:30 Friday morning in the
stock trailer while going to the museum to
pick up chairs for Shelly Creek.
There being no further business the meeting
was adjourned at 8:45 P.M.
Respectively Submitted,
Glorianne
Weigand, Secretary
