Fort Crook Historical Society
Board Meeting
July 1, 2008
The meeting was called to order by
President Robert Ingram at 7:00 P.M.
All stood for the flag salute.
Those present were board members Jeannette
Ciriello, Tim Glaze, Charles Thomason,
Billie Albaugh, Robert Ingram, Glorianne
Weigand and Betty Stoltenberg. Also present
were past president Chuck McCulley and
Curator Dorothy Mason and guest Casey Reuck.
The minutes of the previous meeting were
read and corrected to read the caterpillar
is a D8 instead of a D7 as first thought. A
motion to accept the minutes as corrected
was made by Charles and 2nd by
Jeannette. Motion carried.
A limited Treasures report was given on
Pioneer Day which was we took in $1180 on
the food booth, $600.00 on the T-Shirt
Booth, $75.00 on John’s plant booth, $140.00
on the Dutch Oven demonstration and $1800.00
on the raffle. Jeannette made a motion to
accept the report and Charles 2nd
it. Motion carried.
OLD BUSINESS: Pioneer Day report, the
raffle prizes were won by Steve Knoch,
Rita’s Taylor’s original Round Barn Painting
and Darla Van Reit the lawn mower.
It was decided to not put a sandwich board
advertisement in Big Valley but put that one
at Ray’s Market next year. Also as there was
a mix-up on booths selling raffle tickets
other than the museum that it needs to be
clarified on the entry form for booths that
they will not be allowed to sell raffle
tickets. All entrants need to sign the
entry form whether it is a free booth or not
so they know the rules and regulations. The
booth in question only made a phone call to
enter and did not clarify what they were
going to do.
Everyone felt the Pioneer Day was a
success and the parking was greatly
improved. 30 Thank you letters have been
sent to participants.
Round Barn Report: Ten trailer loads of
logs were hauled from the Peterson Ranch to
Bill Cessna’s to be cut into lumber for the
barn. The poles at Valley rental that were
not peeled need to be peeled for inside
work. Since the bark is set hard, Robert is
going to take them home to lie under the
sprinklers in his field to soak them up.
Robert is still talking to Beatty Associates
about logs that would be in one central
location. Billy Albaugh has two trees on his
property that he is donating for logs.
Robert said it is time to start asking for
donations as we are getting close to
construction and will need financing now.
The Antique Truck Show was a success and
they had 28 trucks. They made a $600.00
donation to the museum and $400.00 was taken
in at the Gift Shop. Chuck was there to
thank them for having their function at the
Museum. A Thank You letter was sent to them.
The IT Committee report was tabled as John
was not present.
The yard watering system is being put in
place this week. It should be finished in
one more day. There will be a timer on the
sprinklers for the flowers and yard. The
contractor has offered to donate the time to
put water to the Round Barn when it is
finished. Dorothy has had to put in extra
time to be there when the contractors were
working on the system.
Tim made a very nice Gift Shop sign, but
he felt it was not big enough to put at the
road, so it will be hung on the front of the
museum and he will make another one for out
at the road. Good job Tim.
The rummage sale that we had planned for
July 19th has conflicted with
other activities in the valley and since we
could not come up with another date, it was
tabled until spring and we will try to have
one in May.
The Glenburn Church Piano Recital that was
planned for July 26th has also
come up with some opposition. After some
phone calls to Church board members we have
decided to have it November 1st
on the same day the church has their Craft
sale and soup luncheon. The church board
has to approve it so a letter will be sent
to them asking for that date.
The Fall River Century Bike Ride will be
July 18 & 19 and we have to wash out the
drink coolers and arrange the snacks on the
18th at 3:00 P.M. all who can
help need to be there. Then on the 19th
we need to clean up around 5:00 P.M. at the
Fair Grounds.
Many of the brochures and holders have
been put out in businesses but we need many
more brochures to fill them. Robert will
get in touch with Lyn Read about this. We
would mainly like to have them in
Restaurants, Motels, Doctors Offices, Real
Estate and places where tourists would go.
Tim reported that instead of having doors
made for the book cases upstairs that hinges
could be placed on tempered glass and not
have to frame the glass. Chuck will ask
Scott’s Glass if they have the glass to do
this. At one time they had some they would
donate.
Merri Glaze has the Library almost totally
finished and she has done a wonderful job
arranging and cataloging the books. We
really appreciate her.
NEW BUSINESS: The Garden Tour Luncheon will
be August 10. Jeannette and Mary are
working hard on the yard to get it all
ready.
The Fair booth entry will be sent in and
we will do a Country Kitchen and use a
vegetable and canning theme. For the float
it was suggested that we use the Sheep
Herders Ark and haul it on a trailer with
some people dressed as pioneers.
We need to get started on raffle items for
the Harvest Dinner. So far we have a
painting of the Feed Store and one of an
Indian Maiden, the John Deere Childs Tractor
and a stereo system.
The Nor Cal Air Stream travel group would
like for us to put on a dinner for them one
evening in Sept. or Oct. Chuck made the
motion to do the dinner and Glorianne 2nd
it. We will serve them Cast Iron cooked
stew by Chuck, salad, bread, dessert and
beverage for $10.00. Chuck will also do a
blacksmith demonstration and Casey offered
to do Cowboy poetry. There will be 40 to 60
of them for dinner.
Leslie bought books from the Maahcooatche
store when they sold out and they would be
an addition to our books at the Gift Shop.
She paid $70.00 for them and Tim made the
motion to reimburse her and Jeannette 2nd
it. Motion carried.
There being no further business the meeting
was adjourned at 9:30 P.M.
Respectively Submitted
