Fort Crook Historical Society
Board Meeting - June 2, 2009
The meeting of the Fort Crook
Historical Society was called to
order at 7:00 P.M. by President
Charles Thomason. All stood for the
flag salute.
Those present were board members
John Fenn, Chuck McCulley, Billie
Albaugh, Betty Stoltenberg, Charles
Thomason, Jeannette Ciriello,
Glorianne Weigand, Tim Glaze, Milly
Lakey and Past President Robert
Ingram. Also present were Curator
Dorothy Mason and guests Shirley
French and Dan Macmillan.
The minutes of the previous
meeting were read and approved as
read. A motion to accept the
minutes was made by John and
seconded by Chuck. Motion carried.
The Treasurer’s report was given
by Betty. There is $28,617.43 in
the General Fund and $17,369.91 in
the Round Barn Fund. We have taken
in $558.00 in Raffle money for the
Pioneer Day Raffle.
Jeannette made the motion to accept
the treasurer’s report and Chuck
seconded it. Motion carried.
OLD BUSINESS: Robert reported on the
Round Barn. We have not heard from
the McConnell Foundation as to their
decision about the grant. Robert
talked to Plumas Bank about a line
of credit and Betty talked to Tri
Counties Bank about a loan. They
thought we could get a loan with
some one guaranteeing the loan.
Betty said she and Bill would be
willing to sign on the loan. If we
do not hear soon that we get a
grant, Betty and Bill will proceed
with the paperwork for the loan.
Tim made the motion that we go with
a line of credit or loan for $57,000
and Jeanette seconded it. Motion
passed.
A lightning rod is needed on the
barn. Charles has a lead on some
material for the cable Chuck will
make a horse weather vane to put on
the top of the pole and the
lightning rod cable will be attached
to that.
John got an update on the price of
plywood for the loft but we thought
we needed to save what money we have
for the roof and hold off on the
plywood.
Billy has another tree to be cut
for boards for the loft.
Shirley French was present to talk
about the Antique Truck Show that
will be held June 27. He is
planning on over 30 Trucks and he
said everything is on track. He
will need us to supply the tables
and chairs and he will take care of
the barbeque. Some of the trucks
will be arriving Friday night and
camp on the grounds. He appreciates
the use of the Museum facilities and
we appreciate the crowd it brings to
the museum.
A report was given on the yard
sale and we brought in $1262.00 and
were sold out by 2:00. It was a
great turn out and we had six others
that bought booth space at $20.00
each. The Burney Yard Sale will be
June 12 & 13 at Chuck’s house. We
will price and put things out June
10 & 11. We will start at 8:00
A.M. We will need two cashiers as
there will be two sale locations
across the street from each other.
The Historical Societies meeting
was a great success and we had
representatives from twelve
museums. John did a great job on
lunch and we fed around ninety
people. Everyone was very impressed
with out museum facility.
West Shasta Museum has said they
would like to host the meeting next
year.
Chuck reported on Pioneer Day which
is this Saturday. We have sixteen
craft booths. Jeannette has the
plaques made for the Dutch Oven Cook
Off and there are blacksmith items
also for prizes. Travis Hickey and
Chuck will judge the Dutch Oven
Cooking.
The Dragoon Soldiers will be here
and would like to use the Fort Crook
Cabin as their headquarters. The
Manton Band, Virginia Dye and her
band and two young girls that do old
time fiddling will share the music
portion. The Cattlewomen, Museum
and Manton Church Ladies will have
food booths. K&K Distributing from
Alturas donated our hot dogs and
popcorn kits. A thank you has been
sent.
The Masons will take care of the
parking, Don Hendrix will pull the
shuttle wagon and we will ask
Paulette Hendrix and Laverne
Thomason to sell Raffle Tickets.
We will get some of the things
taken care of on Friday and Tim is
still trying to secure the use of
the tent.
The Library is complete and
InterMountain Floors donated the
linoleum to complete the floor.
David Baker finished the doors on
the book cases. Thank you letters
have been sent to both.
The Fort Crook Cabin is near
completion and needs a little more
chinking up at the top before
winter. It is open for display as
the Fort Crook Officers Quarters and
a Logging display.
Glorianne sent out 125 Thank You
letters to all who donated or bought
auction items at the Round Barn
Dinner and everyone who helped or
donated in any way.
NEW BUSINESS: Milly would like to
look in to getting a credit card
machine for the Gift Shop. She will
check on this and report next
meeting.
Charles reported on the Haynes
Freight wagon that will be donated
to the Museum. There was discussion
on where to store it until the Round
Barn is finished.
Dan talked about the restoration
of the Mail Stage and he has talked
to several people who are willing to
help with this project and he will
follow up on those leads.
The proposed archway over our
entry road is not something that the
county will allow so that is no
longer an issue.
The ladies bathroom has been
painted by Glorianne and now we need
some repair on the men’s bathroom
before it can be done. Chuck,
Glorianne and Dorothy will work on
that to be completed by Pioneer Day.
Stan sanded and stained the four
large benches that were donated to
the museum by the Ewer Family that
were originally used in the Fall
River IOOF Hall.
Anita is willing to do the Golden
Anniversary Dinner at the Fair again
if we can help. After some
discussion it was tabled until next
meeting.
The Christian Science Church is no
longer in use by the church and it
is up for sale. Robert talked to
Bob Shaw and it is listed with a
local Realtor. It would be a nice
addition to the Museum if it were
donated to us.
If Ramiro is no longer able to
host our web site John may have to
take it over and if he does the
Museum would be willing to purchase
the software he would need.
The flower border at the Fair has
to be planted by June 30 so we will
plan a planting day for Saturday
June 27 at 8:00 A.M. John and
Jeannette have been raising plants
for it.
There being no further business
the meeting was adjourned at 9:30
P.M.
The VFW have loaned us their
popcorn machine for Pioneer Day so
we tried it out and enjoyed the
popcorn.
Respectively Submitted,
