Fort Crook Historical Society
Board Meeting - May 5, 2009
The meeting of the Fort Crook
Historical Society was called to
order by President Robert Ingram at
7:00 P.M. All stood for the flag
salute.
Those present were board members
Robert Ingram, Jeannette Ciriello,
John Fenn, Billie Albaugh, Tim
Glaze, Charles Thomason, Milly
Lakey, Betty Stoltenberg and
Glorianne Weigand. Also present
were curator Dorothy Mason, guests
Wayne Norris, Margo Norris and Dan
Macmillan
The minutes were read and the
correction it was the Road Gypsies
that had talked about having a get
to gather at the Museum not the
Mountain Cruisers. John made the
motion to accept the minutes as
corrected and Jeannette seconded
it. Motion passed.
The treasurer’s report was given.
We have $29,585.93 in the General
Fund and $21,581.96 in the Round
Barn Fund.
Milly made the motion to accept
the treasurer’s report and Jeannette
seconded it. Motion passed.
OLD BUSINESS: Round Barn report; we
had three bids for the roofing of
the barn. Harbert Roofing $58,000
for material and labor and Benson
Roofing was $45,000 for labor only,
United Shinglers bid was $80,000
labor and material. Redding Roofing
has quoted $25,000 for shingles
only.
HiMont Motel has offered free
lodging for roofers which will be a
great help. We do not have enough
funding to buy the shingles. Robert
will follow up on bids and would
like for the roofers to look at the
barn again now that most of the
sheeting is on.
Wayne said his job would be done
in about three days.
The Round Barn Dinner Auction was
a huge success and we fed over 400
people and ran out of food for the
last 30 people. More table and
chairs had to be set up. We had
about 130 auction items and the
auction alone brought in
$10,150.00. The 50/50 raffle made
$1000.00 with half being for the
Round Barn. Donations were generous
and the entire evening made
$24,059.00. Thank you letters are
to be sent for all the donations and
to auction donators and buyers.
The Historical Societies Meeting
will be held May 9 at 11 A.M. for
signups at the museum then go to the
Vets Hall for spaghetti lunch that
John has planned. 90 people from
twelve museums have responded.
Pioneer day so far has eleven
craft booths and two food booths
plus our food booth that have
responded. There will also be the
Dutch Oven Cook Off that Jim Geiger
is in charge of. Some of the men
will put the Pioneer Day sandwich
boards up on Saturday.
Our raffle this year will be
$250.00 of beef from Henry and Pam
Giacomini, Wild Rice Gift Basket
from Fall River Wild Rice, gift
basket from Corner Post and a Granny
Doll.
Tickets will be sent out to all
members.
The Quilt show was a success and
they fed about 85 people and it made
$694.00. Thank you Jeannette and
Sharon for another great event.
Tim reported that the Library book
cases are finished and the doors are
on. Merri has done a great job with
the library and new flooring will
soon be added to make it a complete
enjoyable addition to the museum.
The mural has been put up behind
the canoe and artificial trees and
plants added to make it a more
complete display. We would like to
have some lighting put up behind the
canoe.
Ramiro has been ill so he may not
be able to keep up with our web site
so John said he would try to update
and service the website.
The Fort Crook Cabin is complete
and open. There are pictures of
logging on the wall from Tom Glunt
in the second room. This will make
a nice addition to the museum.
Our Yard Sale is the 23rd
from 9-4 and we only have a few
booths that people have rented but
we will all gather items to sell for
the museum table. We have some
furniture donated by Don and Linda
Smith that we have already picked
up.
The Antique Truck Show is June 27th
and we will get some information out
for that.
NEW BUSINESS: The McConnell
foundation Grant Site Review is
Tuesday May 19th around
11:30 A.M. and we all need to be
present to support the Round Barn
Project.
Robert talked about doing a
restoration of the mail stage, but
no action was taken.
The Youth employment program that
was discussed and it does not fit
into our criteria.
Tim talked about a proposed Museum
Archway but has to check out more
permits first.
David Baker will make more show
cases if we need them. He is the
one that did the doors for the
library book cases and he did a
wonderful job.
The annual meeting will be May 17th
at 2:00 P.M. Election of officers
will take place at that time.
There being no further business
the meeting was adjourned at 9:45.
Respectively Submitted,
Glorianne Weigand, Secretary
