Fort Crook Historical Society
Board
Meeting
May 6, 2008
The meeting of the Fort Crook Historical
Society was called to order by President
Robert Ingram at 7:30 P.M. All stood for
the flag salute.
Those present were board members John Fenn,
Tim Glaze, Billie Albaugh, Charles Thomason,
Milly Lakey, Betty Stoltenberg, Jeannette
Ciriello, Robert Ingram, Glorianne Weigand,
Curator, Dorothy Mason, Past President Chuck
McCulley and member Mary Wortman.
The minutes of the previous meeting were
read and approved as read.
The Treasurers report was given by Betty and
we have $78,397.99 in the checking account.
The money for the Pioneer Day raffle is
coming in and also many membership dues.
The Round Barn T Shirts are also selling
very well. The new order has been received.
Betty had checked into putting some money
in an interest bearing account, but the
interest is not enough to tie up the money
we might need to do the Round Barn work.
Charles made a motion to accept the
treasurer’s report and Tim seconded it.
Motion carried.
OLD BUSINESS: Chuck made a report on
Pioneer Day and he said that the
participants that he has sent letters to are
slow in coming in. Glorianne reported that
only six craft booths have sent money in and
two food booths. May 15th is the
deadline for that. Betty and Glorianne will
get the signs out on Saturday with the help
of Bill and Stan.
Charles said Inter Mountain Septic will
bring one of their units. The lot across the
road has been graded for parking.
The Round Barn report was given by Robert
and the last of the rafter poles have been
peeled. Now the large logs will be brought
in to peel. Robert got the approval to use
a cedar log for the center pole. We had a
sample of the metal shakes that would work
for the roof; they will run $200-$250 per
square (10x10 ft) the material alone will
run $30,000.
Charles has logs cut down at the Peterson
Ranch. Robert will call Bill Cessna about
his portable sawmill to cut the logs into
boards. It would be the best to move the
mill to the logs.
John reported on the IT Committee. We do
not know what we are paying for with
Shasta.com so John will contact them. John
brought the new computer in and will install
it this week.
Tim has talked to several people about the
security system but they all want a complete
plan drawn up. If we get a new monitor from
Radio Shack it should work with the camera’s
we already have. He will check on the price
of a monitor that is compatible.
Robert and Leslie attended the Shasta
Historical Society gathering and Robert was
very impressed as there were many societies
represented there. He volunteered for us to
host the next gathering next May.
We need a new sign for the museum with
days, hours and Gift Shop listed on it.
Jeannette will get a draft drawn up and Tim
will build a new sign.
The letter folder has been purchased and
is on its way to the Museum.
We are getting Wine Glasses etched at Fall
River Arts and they will be ready to sell
when we have a booth at Airport Day on May
18th. We need to be there at 7
A.M. when they start serving breakfast. We
will only sell Round Barn items and tickets
for the Pioneer Day drawing.
Robert, Charles and Cecil went to the Farm
Bureau meeting but did not sell many shirts,
but felt it was a good promotion for the
Round Barn.
NEW BUSINESS:
The Annual meeting will also be held May 18,
at 2:00 P.M., the same day as Airport Day.
Robert will be gone so Charles will chair
the meeting. John Patchin will be here to
present his Civil War program. We will also
have election of officers. We will serve
punch and cookies.
Before the meeting this evening several
met with Troy Ford that will give us an
estimate for the new sprinkler system that
is badly needed for the museum. He will
have the estimate this next week for us to
consider.
May 31st will be another work day
at the museum to finish our spring work.
We will plan to have a community rummage
sale on July 19th which is also
the Bike Race. We will only rent out space
for $20.00 each. We need to do the
advertising. It needs to be in the next
news letter so people can be aware of
putting up their items for sale.
John brought a DVD on the wild life of
Little Hot Springs Valley by Tristen Howard
that had aired on PBS Television. It has
been offered to the Museum to sell for
$19.95 and we would have to pay $10.00 each
for them. A motion was made by Glorianne and
seconded by Charles that we purchase 20
DVD’s to sell at the gift shop and the money
will go into the General Fund. Motion
carried. John will get them.
There being no further business the
meeting was adjourned at 9:20 P.M.
Respectively Submitted,
Glorianne Weigand, Secretary
