Fort Crook Historical Society
Board Meeting~~ April 7, 2009
The meeting of the Fort Crook
Historical Society was called to
order by President Robert Ingram at
7:00 P.M. All stood for the flag
salute.
Those present were board members
Robert Ingram, Betty Stoltenberg,
Billie Albaugh, Tim Glaze, John
Fenn, Milly Lakey, Jeannette
Ciriello and Glorianne Weigand. Also
present were Past President Chuck
McCulley, Curator Dorothy Mason and
Guests, Sharon McCulley, Anita Ray,
Marlyn Ameling and Jerry Dunckel.
The minutes of the previous
meeting were read and approved as
read. The Treasurers report was
given and we have $28,993.27 in the
general fund and $18,207.61 in the
Round Barn Fund. The Round Barn
expense so far have been
$32,817.30. John made the motion to
accept the Treasurer’s report and
Billie seconded it. Motion passed.
OLD BUSINESS: The Round Barn is
going along well. Wayne said they
would finish their job in a couple
of weeks. Sierra Pacific donated
the 2x6 sheeting.
Jerry Dunckel was on hand to give
us a bid for the roofing labor only
which would be $51,000. The
shingles only will run about
$50,000. Jerry explained how on
each hip of the roof he would have
to miter sets of shingles to make
the round curve. He will need a man
lift and scaffold and the museum
would be liable for this expense.
The museum would also do the entire
cleanup. We need to wait on our
funding before we commit to any
contract on roofing.
Jeanette sent in a grant
application to Sierra Pacific.
Leslie also sent a grant application
to the McConnell Foundation.
John had been in contact with the
Johnston Family who is the Great
Great Grandson of the original
builder of the barn. They have sent
pictures of the original barn being
built and clothes and items that
belonged to that family. A nice
display will be made at the museum
of these items.
The Round Barn Roundup Dinner
planned for April 18 at Ingram Hall
is well under way. So far about 170
tickets have been sold and we need
to keep going on that. Anita asked
that we all make bundt cakes and she
had a count for that. Rays Market
donated half of the meat for the
dinner. Travis Hickey is cooking
the meat and he needs help at 5:00
A.M. Saturday the 18th to
get the meat prepared for the BBQ.
We will set up tables at 9 A.M. on
Friday. Betty and Glorianne will go
shopping for the supplies and Megan
Dahle will do the decorating.
Margo Norris is the Auction
Chairman and there are quite a few
nice items on display at Valley
Rental for the auction. Ken Bickford
will be one of the 50\50 Raffle
salesmen.
We will put tip jars on the tables
for our servers which will be one of
the school groups.
We had sent out solicitation
letters to the whole InterMountain
area and the postage was $747.00 and
with envelopes and paper it probably
cost about $1,500 total. So far we
have received $3,000 from that
venture.
John looked into Pay Pal for
paying for donations or auction
items and found out it was not a
good idea. Billy made the motion to
not use Pay Pal and Jeanette
seconded it. Motion passed.
John made the motion to appoint
Marlyn Ameling as our fund raiser
chairman. Millie seconded the
motion and the motion passed.
The Quilt Show is Sunday April 19
at the Veterans Hall from 12:00-3:00
with a soup, bread and dessert
luncheon for $7.00. We will set up
for that on Saturday and Jeanette
and Sharon are in charge.
The Fort Cabin is near
completion. We do need one more day
of chinking in the high places where
we need tall men to reach. Most of
the display is in the officers
quarters and as soon as the second
room is cleaned out of saws and
equipment there will be a logging
display put in there.
Tim had a bid on the glass for the
library book cases from Standard
Glass for $404.00, but there was
some discussion of the thickness of
glass. This was tabled until the
glass could further be checked on.
David Baker and Steve Reed are
donating work and hinges for the
book cases.
Glorianne check on the Lions Club
Historical Plaque that they wanted
us to help with but Bill Johnson who
will order the plaque thought it was
best for the Lions to work directly
with him.
Milly ordered 88 new Round Barn T
Shirts and they should be here in
time for the dinner and we would
like to have a table set up there to
sell them.
The Burney Estate sale from the
items donated by the Paul and
Hermille Swenson family is planned
for April 24 & 25. We will have a
complimentary paver made for them to
show our appreciation. (Before
these minutes were typed the date of
the sale was changed to June 12 & 13
because of weather factors and we
are so busy).
The Matson Lines storage
containers were tabled waiting for
further information.
Ron Shannon made a bracket for the
Fort Crook flag that will hang at
the front entrance to the Museum.
John has been in contact with
Attorney James Kramer and he will do
our legal work for the Round Barn
for $400.00. John will follow up on
this.
The Antique truck show is still to
be in June and they want us to
advertise which we do have it in our
dispatch and our other publications.
NEW BUSINESS: Pioneer Day report
we have 8 Craft Booths so far and
one food booth.
Katie Clift made us a new ad for
the InterMountain News, Mountain
Echo and Traveler for their tourist
papers. John made the motion that
we put it in those papers and Betty
seconded it. Motion passed.
Glorianne will get them sent in to
those papers.
The Mountain Cruisers would like
to have their car show here, but
nothing is definite yet.
For the Historical Meeting that
we are having on May 9 we already
have about 25 reservations not
counting our group. If we have food
left over from the dinner we may use
that, if not we will have a
spaghetti dinner. We can plan more
on that at the May meeting.
Bill Mason made a very nice raffle
ticket cage for us, Thank You Bill.
There being no further business the
meeting was adjourned at 9:30 P.M.
Respectively Submitted,
Glorianne Weigand, Secretary |
