Fort Crook Historical Society
Board
Meeting
April 1, 2008
A special event was held before the
beginning of the meeting to honor and Thank
Rita Taylor for the privileged of using her
original painting of the Round Barn to be
printed on T Shirts and hats to be sold by
the Museum for a Round Barn benefit. Rita
also donated the original painting to be a
prize item for Pioneer Day. Besides Rita
many of her family and friends were in
attendance and cake and punch was served.
John Patchin of the Sons of the Civil War
gave a presentation on the reenactment of
Fort Crook that he thought we might be
interested in sponsoring.
The meeting was called to order by President
Robert Ingram at 7:30 P.M.
All stood for the flag salute. Those
present were board members Jeannette
Ciriello, John Fenn, Tim Glaze, Billie
Albaugh, Charles Thomason, Milly Lakey,
Betty Stoltenberg, Robert Ingram and
Glorianne Weigand. Also present were Past
President Chuck McCulley, Curator Dorothy
Mason and member Katie Clift.
The minutes of the previous meeting were
read and approved as read.
The Treasurers report was given and
Jeannette made the motion to accept it and
Charles seconded it. Motion carried. There
was a discussion on investing some of the
checking account into an interest bearing
account. Betty will check on some different
choices of investing and report next
meeting.
OLD BUSINESS: John reported on the IT
Committee. They feel we do not need high
speed internet and are unhappy with
Shasta.com so they want to cancel that and
go with a dial up with Frontier. Even
though we have to have it year round it
would be cheaper and just as effective.
Katie Clift presented the tri fold
brochure that she has drafted and now that
the email address will be available she will
be able to finish them up. We will put them
in all the businesses with the holders that
Robert bought.
Tim reported on the security system and it
was a lot more expensive than we had
planned. He is still checking on some more
aspects of the system. We may just replace
the monitors and table the cameras for the
time being.
Round Barn report, Robert met with Wayne
and Jerry Norris and they want to get things
started. The timbers at Pauline’s were
sorted and there are not many salvageable.
The engineer wants Doug Fir, but the
original barn was all pine. Wayne has a
cedar tree that he wants to use for the
center pole which the specifications also
call for Doug Fir, so Robert will contact
the engineer again.
This Friday April 4 we will have another
Pole Peeling work day.
Pioneer Day, Chuck has the prizes for the
cook off. Last year cash was given as it
was stated in the entry. This year we will
not give cash. Chuck has also purchased the
sodas, water and hot dogs when they were on
sale.
We have three more booth entries in. PG&E
will let us use their property for parking.
Chuck said it would be a good idea for all
Museum members and vendors to park to the
back of the lot and leave the closer parking
spots for the public. Charles has the
Masonic Lodge doing the parking.
Anita Ray is stapling the Pioneer Day
tickets together and we have to get them out
soon.
NEW BUSINESS: Robert found a letter folder
on line and John made the motion we buy it
and Milly seconded it. Motion carried.
Shasta County Farm Bureau Meeting is
Saturday night and Robert will go and take
shirts and hats to sell. The price of the
hats will be $10.00.
Katie asked if we wanted to put an ad in
the Mt. Echo Tourist Companion. The motion
was made by Glorianne and seconded by Betty
that we get a $51.00 Ad. Motion carried.
We need to order more Round Barn T Shirts
as they are already selling fast and we will
be out by Pioneer Day. Glorianne and Milly
will make up a new order.
We will have a work day on Saturday April
19 at 8:30 to clean the buildings and
grounds to be ready for opening day on May
1.
There being no further business the meeting
was adjourned at 9:20 P.M.
Respectively submitted,
Glorianne Weigand, Secretary
