Fort Crook Historical Society
Board Meeting - March 3, 2009
The meeting of the Fort Crook
Historical Society was called to
order at 7:00 P.M. by President
Robert Ingram. All stood for the
flag salute.
A tour of the restored Fort Cabin
preceded the meeting and we are all
very pleased to have the cabin
nearly completed. Stan and
Glorianne, Bill Mason and Chuck have
all done a lot of hard work on it.
Those present at the meeting were
board members Robert Ingram,
Glorianne Weigand, Jeanette
Ciriello, John Fenn, Milly Lakey,
Tim Glaze, Charles Thomason and
Billie Albaugh. Also present were
Past President Chuck McCulley,
Curator Dorothy Mason and guest Rose
Schneider.
The minutes of the previous
meeting were read with the
corrections that Milly’s term would
be three years and Chuck’s would be
one year. John made the motion to
accept the minutes as corrected and
Billy seconded it.
Motion passed.
The Treasurer’s report was
discussed in Betty’s absence. There
is $30,436.54 in the general fund
and $36,642.13 in the Round Barn
fund. The Round barn income for
February was $960.00 and the
expenses including payroll was
$14,961.75. Jeanette made the motion
to accept the treasurer’s report and
John seconded it.
OLD BUSINESS: Robert reported on the
construction of the Round Barn. The
log frames are up and everyone has
been working very hard on this
project. The payroll to Dan McMillan
and Valley Rental has been paid to
date which is the main portion of
the expenses.
Fall River Arts made a banner
“Please Help Us Finish” with the
phone number and email on it. Bill
Johnson donated it for the price of
his one year business membership.
Jeanette made the motion to accept
his offer for the membership
exchange and Charles seconded it.
John will see Sandy Jensen about
using their credit card machine if
people want to donate using their
card. He will have Ramiro update
the web page to include this
information.
Audit Committee report. The audit
was completed and signed off by
Karin Thrasher, Janice Barrett and
Gail Bassett. They questioned the
price we pay for the copy machine,
but it was found out that we are in
a contract until February 2012 and
are bound to that. They also
questioned the State Compensation
Insurance to see if we could get
something cheaper, but Betty checked
on that and we are on a Museum Flat
Rate.
The Fort Cabin is almost complete
on the inside and some furnishings
are in place. We need to build the
steps, hand rail and caulking before
opening.
Tim had checked on doors for the
book cases but they were much more
expensive than he had thought. He
will keep working on that. He has
someone making magazine racks for
the Library.
John reported on the IT Committee
and he found out that the Dispatch
does not conform to the web page.
He has found the 1861 Officers
Letters from Fort Crook and other
military posts on line and will put
them on hard copy.
Jeanette reported on the Quilt
show and they have the flyers out
for April 19. They will charge
$7.00 for entry to the show and
lunch of soup, dessert, bread &
drink.
Glorianne will check on the Fall
River Lions Hall Plaque and have it
made at Fall River Arts with the
Lions Club paying for it.
Gift Shop items were tabled until
the next meeting.
Dispatch Planning, the information
for the dispatch needs to be in on
the following dates; May-June issue
in by April 5; July-Aug. issue in by
June 7; Sept.-Aug. issue in by Aug.
9; Nov.-Dec. issue in by Oct. 11;
Jan.-Feb. in by Dec. 6. We will
meet next week to fold the Dispatch
and saturation letter.
May 23 will be the yard sale from
9-4. We will also have a bake
sale. Jeanette will get information
out and posters for the yard sale.
We will charge $20.00 for a space of
about 20x20.
Chuck and Glorianne have sent out
about 60 letters for Pioneer Day.
Jim Geiger will take care of the
Dutch Oven cooking. He has sent out
notices for that. The plaques will
need to have dates changed on them
as we did not use them last year.
We need to have raffle items for
Pioneer Day.
Glorianne has also sent out the
letters to the Historical Museum Day
to be held May 9.
Tim presented the Dragoon Banners
that Peggy Hansen and Bess Kinsey
made for us. They are really nice
and will be put up at the entry.
NEW BUSINESS: The Antique Truck
Show is June 20 and they would like
for us to do some publicity. It is
put in our news letter and our
publications. Maybe we could put
out sandwich boards at the road for
them.
We are signed up for a flower
border at the fair grounds. John,
Jeanette, Rose and Glorianne will be
on the committee to plan it, but we
will need others to help maintain
it.
The popcorn popper that Robert had
found to buy was discussed. Rose
said the VFW had one we could borrow
at any time. So we will just borrow
theirs for the Pioneer Day, Santa’s
workshop and other functions that we
need it for.
Robert wants to put a motion
sensor light up at the front door.
Cecil Ray has found some storage
containers that we can have then we
would put them up for sale for some
extra income.
A Round Barn Fund Raiser Dinner
was discussed and we will have it
April 18, at Ingram Hall at 6:00
P.M. Tim made the motion we have
the dinner and Billy seconded it.
The plan is to have Travis Hickey
cater the dinner of Beef Brisket
with all the trimmings. We will
have a silent auction and a 50/50
drawing. The price will be $20.00
for adults, $10.00 for 6-12, 5 and
under free. Shelly Wood will
provide the music. We will pre sell
tickets and get posters made at
Davis copy center. Robert said Megan
would do the decorating and Anita
will plan the dessert.
Chuck told us that the museum is
the benefactor of all the contents
and furnishing of a home near him.
We will have to move the contents
out of the house as it is sold and
we will move it all to neighboring
garages for the museum to have a
yard sale in the near future.
There being no further business
the meeting was adjourned at 9:20
P.M.
Respectively Submitted,
Glorianne Weigand, Secretary |
