Fort Crook Historical Society
Annual Meeting
Sunday May 17, 2009
The annual meeting of the Fort
Crook Historical Society was called
to order by President Robert Ingram
at 2:00 P.M. All stood for the flag
salute.
Those present were board members
Robert Ingram, Glorianne Weigand,
Betty Stoltenberg, Billie Albaugh,
Charles Thomason, Tim Glaze & John
Fenn. Also present were Curator
Dorothy Mason and guests Marlyn
Ameling, Liz Thomason, Merri Glaze,
Bill Mason, Rose & David Schneider,
Thom Bracknay, Alma Battersby and
Stan Weigand.
The minutes of the 2008 Annual
meeting were read and John made the
motion to accept them and Charles
seconded it. Motion passed.
The Treasurer’s report was given
and we have $28,297.92 in the
General Fund and $15,714.09 in the
Round Barn Fund. Round Barn total
expense so far has been $74,023.98.
Glorianne made the motion to approve
the Treasurer’s report and Billy
seconded it. Motion passed.
OLD BUSINESS: The Round Barn report
was given by Robert. We are to the
point that we have to get a solid
bid for the roofing. We have a new
bid from John Machon for $31,000 for
labor only and he will have it done
in 4 to 5 weeks. The material bid
from Redding Roofing is $265 per
square which would be $26,500.
Dan Macmillan was paid his last
pay check on Friday so he is now
officially done as far as being paid
by the Museum for the barn
construction. He has done a great
job.
Tuesday May 19, the McConnell
Foundation has scheduled a visit to
see about a Grant. The board
members all plan on attending to
show our support. We cannot order
the shingles until we see if the
Grant is approved as they do not pay
for anything that is already on
hand.
The board discussed about seeing
about a line of credit from the
bank. Our building permit is up in
mid September so we have to have it
finished by then.
The Fort Cabin was reported on by
Billy Mason and Stan Weigand who
have put windows, doors, shutters
and completely have the cabin ready
for a display which is in it. We
still have some more chinking to do,
but it is the top part where we need
tall men to help with it. We hope
to get it all done by winter. A
half day of work would finish it.
Logging pictures have been put in
the second room and it is a welcome
addition to the museum grounds. The
cabin was moved to the museum in
1999.
The Pioneer Day for June 6 reports
was given by Charles and Glorianne.
We have 14 craft booths, 3 food
booths, several display booths, two
bands and 1 old time fiddlers.
There will be Dutch Oven Cooking but
we don’t know how many yet. Charles
reported that the Masonic Lodge will
do the parking; we will get the lot
graded and a porta potty.
Glorianne talked to Don Hendrix
and he will bring his tractor to
pull the wagon and Chuck will need
to get the wagon. The raffle items
this year are $250.00 of meat
donated by Henry and Pam Giacomini,
a wild rice gift basket by Fall
River Wild Rice, a gift basket by
Corner Post and a Granny Doll by
Carolee Underwood.
One book of tickets was sent out
to all members, but not very many
have been returned. The last two
years we sent out two books each so
had made more money.
The Library is complete. David
Baker made doors for the book cases,
Merri has all the books in order and
InterMountain Floors laid new
linoleum in the entry and a bench in
the center has been added. It is no
longer just a storage room but a
very inviting library.
Stan & Glorianne put a mural
behind the canoe with artificial
plants and decoys and Tim has put in
some lighting and it is a very
attractive addition to the upstairs.
We are planning a Community Yard
Sale this Saturday at the museum.
We are renting out spaces for $20.00
each and having a bake sale, hot dog
booth, and selling donated items for
the Round Barn fund.
Our upcoming events are, Pioneer
Day, Antique Truck Show, Burney
Estate Sale, Yard Sale here, Century
Bike Race, Fair flower border, booth
& parade, Golden Anniversary dinner,
Shelly Creek Rendezvous, Heritage
Days, Harvest Dinner, Piano Recital,
Blacksmith workshop and Santa’s
workshop lunch.
Our membership is 201 but many are
late with their dues.
Charles reported on the 5 Year
Plan. Some of the things that have
been completed that were in the
report from January are, complete
Fort Cabin, Railings for the James
building, glass in the library
cabinets, mural and plants at the
canoe are all done and the building
of the Round Barn is well underway.
Glorianne is sending out 125 Thank
You letters for auction donators and
buyers at the Round Barn Dinner.
John
reported on the IT Committee that
was established and approved by the
board this past year. The web site
is up and running and John monitors
the emails and passes them on to the
person that they need to go to. He
is going to service our website of
www.fortcrook.com
and our email fortcrook@frontiernet.net
NEW BUSINESS: Merri and Marlyn
counted the ballots of which there
were 39. They were unanimous for
the following officers. President,
Charles Thomason; Vice President,
John Fenn; Secretary, Glorianne
Weigand; Treasurer, Betty
Stoltenberg; Chuck McCulley to fill
out the rest of John Fenn’s term of
board member until 2010 and Milly
Lakey’s term of board member for
three more years. Robert handed the
gavel over to the new President
Charles Thomason. Robert will stay
on as the Round Barn Boss. We all
thanked Robert for a job well done.
It has been a big one with the Round
Barn project as well as the
president.
John has received a message from
the Smithsonian Institute that
September 26 be designated as Museum
Day. He will fill out some
paperwork and send it in that says
we will participate and have free
admission. Tim made the motion that
John follow up on this and Robert
seconded it. Motion passed.
Marlyn has signed up two new
business memberships, Mayfly Pub and
Big Valley Power.
Betty and Charles met with Mona
Carr about our insurance. We need to
get the Round Barn on the policy and
it will be $300-$500 to add the barn
for replacement cost. We only have
three buildings insured, the main
building, James building and the
barn. John made the motion we add
the Round Barn and Billy seconded
it. Motion passed.
Ken Manies from Bolt’s Antique
Museum in Oroville gave a talk on
antique wire.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:00
P.M. and refreshments were served.
Respectively Submitted,
Glorianne Weigand, Secretary |
